MRT Gears Up For the World Match Racing Tour
The members of MRT are working hard to prepare for the upcoming season starting in Marseilles this March.
A number of projects are under way to build up the team’s experience and fitness levels to strengthen the team’s mental and physical preparation for what is looking like a tough upcoming season on the World Tour. The team has been working closely with a number of physiotherapists from Risely Physio in Perth who have set up a very specialized fitness program, aimed at improving each individual’s job specific requirements. Only two months into the program the team is already feeling the benefits, with fitness scores improving considerably.
Aside from the physical preparations, the team’s members have been competing in a number of different dinghy classes such as the 49er, 18ft skiff and Contenders alongside their keelboat sailing to help boost their experience in different tactical styles of racing, and to get more of an understanding of the requirements to sail smaller, faster boats competitively.
Although the team’s preparations are going well for the upcoming season, the hunt for sponsorship is still on. Without a good partner for 2009, the season could prove to be more difficult than in 2008, and the team may have to withdraw early in the season if money becomes too much of an issue.
