Date of Birth: 24/05/1986

Position: Helmsman

Nationality: Australia

Hometown: Fremantle

ISAF ID: AUSTM5

Often compared to the likes of match racing superstars such as James Spithill and Peter Gilmour, Torvar Mirsky is the new young gun to take the sailing world by storm.
He showed promise from the early days, winning the Sub Junior Mirror Australian National Championships when he was just 12 years old. From there he sailed competitively in a number of dinghy classes including Lasers, 420’s, 505’s and 49ers.

After competing in a number of youth match racing events in Australia and New Zealand, he got together with a large group of talented sailors in Perth in 2005 and formed MRT. The group has since then reduced down to the team that exists now. At the beginning of the 2006 sailing season, Torvar began his climb of the world rankings, and now just 2 years on, is sitting in 4th place on both the ISAF and World Match Racing Tour leader boards at only 22 years of age.

“I am learning so much! I manage our team, and it may be a surprise to know that we have a lot more work to do off the water than on – Logistics, fitness, accounting, press, sponsorship, coordinating event schedules – just to name a few. We run like a business. All members of our team have responsibilities in different areas and I overlook everything. We have to do all these things to world class standard too!”
